Autoclaves are the workhorses of any clinical sterilization workflow. They run hundreds of cycles per month, exposed to high heat, pressurized steam, and constant chemical residue. Without scheduled preventive maintenance, small issues compound into expensive failures, failed sterilization cycles, and CDC and OSHA compliance risks. Angelus Medical provides comprehensive autoclave preventive maintenance for clinics, surgical centers, and dental offices throughout Southern California, performed by CDPH certified technicians who understand the precise tolerances every autoclave manufacturer requires.
This page covers everything you need to know before scheduling Our Autoclave Preventive Maintenance Service, including what we inspect, the recommended PM schedule, our service policies, and how pickup and delivery work in the greater Los Angeles area.
Service Policy
Every preventive maintenance service at Angelus Medical follows a documented protocol developed across two decades of autoclave service. Each PM visit includes a complete inspection, hands on cleaning, parts replacement where required, calibration verification, and a final test cycle. We deliver written documentation of every PM performed for your compliance records.
Before any service begins, we require the following on file:
A signed Credit Card Authorization Form (your card is not charged until the PM is complete)
Written approval of the quote we provide for the scope of work
A signed Loaner Agreement if you choose to use a loaner autoclave during the service window
If our technicians discover issues outside the standard PM scope during inspection, for example a failed gasket, faulty pressure valve, or worn heating element, we pause work and notify you with a separate quote for the additional repair. No additional work is ever performed without your written approval. For autoclave repairs that go beyond preventive maintenance, see Our Autoclave Repair Service.
Free Loaner Policy
Losing your autoclave for a day or more can stop sterilization workflow and force you to reschedule procedures. To prevent that, we offer a Free Loaner Program for qualifying clinics throughout Southern California.
To use a loaner autoclave you will need to:
Sign our standard Loaner Agreement at the time of pickup
Leave a refundable security check or credit card hold for the loaner value, which is returned in full once the loaner is back in original condition
Use the loaner only for clinical sterilization purposes
Return the loaner at the same time we deliver your serviced autoclave
Loaner availability depends on autoclave model and our current inventory. We confirm availability when we send your written quote. The loaner program is most reliably available for tabletop and mid sized autoclaves under 25 liters.
Credit Card Authorization
We require a signed Credit Card Authorization Form on file Before Any PM Work Begins. The authorization protects both parties. It confirms a payment method is in place but does not result in any charge until the work is fully complete and your equipment is ready for delivery.
Important details to know:
Your card is Not Charged At Booking, only after the PM is complete and approved by you
If your facility prefers payment by check, ACH transfer, or net 30 invoice, please notify us when requesting your quote so we can note the alternative method on the authorization form
The authorization covers only the quoted PM amount. Any additional approved repair work is billed separately with your written sign off.
All credit card information is handled in accordance with PCI DSS compliance standards
What Autoclave Preventive Maintenance Includes
Preventive maintenance is the planned, scheduled service that keeps your autoclave running reliably and within manufacturer specifications. PM is the opposite of reactive repair. Reactive repair waits for something to break. Preventive maintenance prevents the break from happening in the first place.
A standard Angelus Medical autoclave PM includes the following tasks:
Chamber Inspection And Deep Cleaning, including removal of mineral deposits, biofilm, and chemical residue
Door Gasket Inspection, with replacement if cracking, hardening, or seal failure is detected
Pressure Relief Valve Testing to confirm correct release pressure within manufacturer tolerance
Temperature And Pressure Calibration Verification using calibrated reference instruments
Heating Element Inspection for resistance, wattage, and visible damage
Water Reservoir And Fill Line Inspection for leaks, blockages, and mineral buildup
Drain And Discharge Line Cleaning to prevent backflow and contamination
Door Latch And Locking Mechanism Service to ensure positive seal under pressure
Control Board And Display Function Test to verify accurate cycle reporting
Printer Or Data Logger Verification if your unit has cycle documentation features
Final Test Cycle performed at standard sterilization parameters with documentation of results
Written PM Report for your compliance records, including photos of completed work where applicable
Recommended PM Schedule
The right PM frequency depends on autoclave usage volume, water quality in your facility, and manufacturer recommendations. Our general guidance:
Standard Clinical Use (under 10 cycles per day): annual PM is sufficient for most facilities
Moderate Volume (10 to 25 cycles per day): semi annual PM (every six months) is recommended
High Volume Use (25 plus cycles per day): quarterly PM is recommended to maintain reliability
Hard Water Areas: increase PM frequency by one tier above the volume guidance, since mineral buildup accelerates significantly with hard water
Surgical And Outpatient Centers: quarterly PM is standard practice regardless of volume, due to the consequences of any sterilization failure
If you are unsure how often your autoclave needs service, send us your model number and approximate weekly cycle count. We will recommend a schedule that balances reliability and cost. Many facilities pair PM with annual Calibration Service to consolidate compliance documentation.

Loaner Delivered at the same visit if requested.
Full PM Service performed at our facility. Most PMs complete within two to three business days from receipt.
Final Test Cycle And Documentation. We run a complete sterilization cycle at standard parameters, document the results, and prepare a written PM report.
Delivery And Setup. We deliver the serviced autoclave, retrieve the loaner if applicable, perform a final on site test cycle, and confirm everything operates correctly before leaving.
Pickup And Delivery Process
We offer Free Pickup And Delivery in the greater Los Angeles area for all approved PM projects. Coverage includes Los Angeles County and most of Orange County. Extended area delivery and onsite PM are available by arrangement.
The standard PM timeline:

In Shop PM typically completed within two to three business days
Quality Control Test Cycle on every autoclave before it leaves our facility
Delivery And On Site Verification. We deliver, retrieve any loaner, run an on site test cycle, and verify operation before leaving.
What Is Included In Your Quote
Our quotes are itemized and transparent. A standard autoclave PM quote includes:
Complete chamber, gasket, valve, and component inspection
Deep cleaning of chamber, fill lines, and drain system
Standard wear parts replacement (door gasket, common O rings)
Temperature and pressure calibration verification
Final operational test cycle with documentation
Written PM report for your compliance records
Free pickup and delivery within our standard Los Angeles service area
30 day warranty on PM workmanship
Items quoted separately when applicable: replacement of major components (heating element, control board, pressure switch), repair work outside PM scope (covered under Our Autoclave Repair Service), onsite PM at your facility, and extended area shipping.
Parts Sourcing And OEM Components
Whenever possible, we use OEM Replacement Parts sourced directly from the manufacturer or authorized distributors. OEM parts ensure exact fit, original performance, and full compatibility with your autoclave.
For older autoclave models where OEM parts are no longer available, we offer two options:
High Quality Aftermarket Parts that meet or exceed original specifications. These are tested for compatibility and carry the same 90 day warranty as OEM components.
Custom Fabrication for legacy components no longer in production. We can machine or 3D print replacement parts when no commercial option exists.
Every quote clearly identifies whether the proposed parts are OEM, aftermarket, or custom fabricated, so you can make an informed decision before approving the work.
Warranty And Compliance Documentation
Every Angelus Medical PM service includes:
30 Day Workmanship Warranty. If any PM related issue appears within 30 days of service, we re inspect at no charge and re service if the cause was within our scope.
90 Day Parts Warranty. Any installed parts that fail within 90 days are replaced free of charge, including labor.
Written PM Report. A complete report of inspection findings, parts replaced, and final test cycle results, suitable for your compliance audit records.
PM Schedule Reminders. We can add your facility to our reminder system so we notify you when your next PM is approaching, eliminating the risk of compliance lapses.
Aftercare Between PM Visits
Between scheduled PMs, you can extend your autoclave's life and reliability by following these practices:
Use Distilled Water Only. Tap water introduces minerals that build up rapidly and damage components.
Wipe The Chamber Daily with a soft cloth and approved cleaner. Never use abrasive scrubbers or chlorine bleach.
Inspect The Door Gasket Weekly for cracks, hardening, or visible debris. Replace immediately if any is found.
Run A Cleaning Cycle Weekly using the manufacturer recommended cleaning solution.
Document Every Sterilization Cycle using your printer or data logger. This protects you in any audit.
Address Error Codes Immediately. Never bypass error messages, even if the autoclave appears to operate normally.
Shipping
For clinics within our standard Los Angeles area service zone, Pickup And Delivery Is Included Free with every PM project. No additional shipping charges apply.
For clinics outside our delivery zone, we offer two options:
Customer Arranged Freight. You coordinate your preferred freight carrier to drop off and pick up your autoclave from our Gardena facility. We prepare and pack the unit for shipping at no additional charge.
Angelus Arranged Freight. We coordinate freight on your behalf and add the actual shipping cost to your final invoice. Common destinations include Northern California, Nevada, and Arizona.
All shipped autoclaves are properly secured, blanket padded, and crated when necessary. We recommend insured shipping for higher value units and assist with insurance claims if any damage occurs in transit.
Ready To Get Started
